Some days I just feel like I need a boost.  That is when I turn to my nutribullet and my nutrition files for inspiration . Today’s “Green Smoothie” is very soothing and earthy and is just what the body ordered.
I added some stevia extract to the recipe since I wanted to balance it with a bit of sweetness to go along with the earthy tones from the greens and the tartness from the lime and apple.  The hemp protein gives it the body and will help keep the body satiated longer. You could also add in some avocado for the same reason as well as for the creaminess.
This smoothie may not be for beginners as it is not sweet.  For green smoothies my guide of 80% vegetables to 20% fruit will ensure a good balance of nutrients without overpowering it with sweetness.  I suggest you build up to this.  Your taste buds will adjust. Those looking for more sweetness may want to add a banana to the mix.    We are creatures of habit so feel free to experiment. Get creative. Try something new.

 

green smoothie

 

Ingredients:

6 lettuce leave
6 kale leaves
handful of spinach
1  apple, cored
1 stick of celery
4 inch stick cucumber
1 tablespoon of hemp protein
Lime juice
1/2 cup of water
Half teasp stevia
In a high speed blender add all ingredients and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.
